Edge

In less than a week, I'll be leaving this island for a month. My friend Anna arrives Thursday, and after a visit here, we will be headed a bit around Nicaragua, then to a nameless Caribbean country that we're not going to because we're not supposed to. Back somewhere around the 26th of July.

I'm trying to do too many things at once, as usual, meaning I have the Internet connection at the high school here in Balgüe, the whole installation at the high school in Altagracia, and the link for the Alcaldia Municipal de Altagracia all pending. At least one of them will get finished before I leave. The rest I hope to have time to finish in the three weeks I'll pass on the island between vacation and home.

In other news, the President Enrique Bolaños recently called a state of economic emergency following a threat by the Spanish power company Union Fenosa to pull out of the country. Now, there's a little war being waged between the executive and legislative branches of the government, for which reason the Organization of American States (OEA) has been called in. People say this is the most unstable the country's been since the Sandinistas lost power in 1990, but here on the oasis de paz nobody seems to care.
